Dr. Phil’s Path To Recovery

Dr. Phil’s Path to Recovery is a premiere substance use therapy used by only a few centers nationwide
We include Dr. Phil’s Path to Recovery, an evidence-based virtual reality (VR) program developed by Dr. Phil McGraw and his son, Jay McGraw, into our holistic therapy program at Royal Life Centers at Puget Sound. Residential inpatient guests view a program DVD in a group setting and later participate in the VR component during our 9-week program. Dr. Phil’s Path to Recovery consists of 29 exercises, each with two components: a virtual “sit down” with Dr. Phil and also a comprehensive workbook meant to be completed in conjunction with the VR component. Guests discuss their workbook answers with their individual therapist. This program was designed to complement existing inpatient and outpatient programming, not to replace existing programs. It bridges the structured environment of inpatient treatment and the less-regimented outpatient treatment in order to help people confront their issues. We identify the root of the problem and work to create lasting lifestyle solutions. Dr. Phil’s Path to Recovery, introduced in early 2017, combines innovative VR technology with Dr. Phil’s decades of psychology and mental health experience to change the addiction treatment landscape. RLC at Puget Sound keeps on top of the latest rehabilitation and addiction therapy trends. In fact, we’re proud to be one of the few treatment facilities that have adopted this new method of treating substance abuse. Dr. Phil understands the approaches and tools needed to effect changes in the lives of those with substance use disorder. His VR tool immerses individuals in triggering scenarios, such as a bar, as he talks them through handling high-risk situations. Knowing how to appropriately handle high-risk situations is critical in recovery, especially early recovery. Our therapy program at Royal Life Centers at Puget Sound highlights the building of skills such as this and helps guests to develop self-awareness and sound reasoning and judgment capabilities. Dr. Phil’s Path to Recovery program is just one more resource we’ve made available to our guests in order to give them the tools needed to lay a foundation for success in long-term recovery. Royal Life Centers at Puget Sound treats dependence on cocaine, methamphetamine, benzodiazepines, opioids, and alcohol. Our admissions staff is available at 888-308-1985 at all hours, seven days a week, to speak with you about our programs and how you or a loved one can take the first step toward recovery.
